Services Information

Please note the following levels of services available to our research community. Please feel free to revisit this page for any updates.

Services that remain Unchanged (updated as of March 2022)

  • We support and prioritize access, reference, and reproduction requests from current Cornell students and employees.
  • We provide reference services on site to visitors and researchers, including those not affiliated with Cornell.
  • We provide basic bibliographic records and conservation assessment for urgent cases along with safe storage of collections already in our holdings.

Services that are Delayed (updated as of March 2022)

  • While we anticipate delays in providing full description or immediate access to new and under-described collections, we do provide basic bibliographic records for most of our collections.
  • There may be delays or the need for special arrangements for access to collections that lack a collections guide (box or folder description). Please contact the Division of Rare and Manuscript Collections well ahead of a projected research visit to make inquiry.

Services that are Paused (updated as of March 2022)

  • Non-Cornell queries: We are only able to respond to e-mailed reference questions from non-Cornell researchers (anyone who is not a current Cornell student or employee) who are planning a research visit. For other questions we will provide information on hiring a freelance researcher.
  • Non-Cornell reproduction requests that involve publishing or broadcasting will be fulfilled on a case-by-case basis as staffing permits, but we are unable to respond to other non-Cornell (anyone who is not a current Cornell student or employee) reproduction requests at this time. We will provide information on hiring freelance researchers who may be able to take photographs as part of their services.
  • We are unable to fulfill Rush reproduction orders. Please see our reproductions page for average fulfillment times.
  • We are unable to commit to any new digitization projects until description and access capacities have increased.

If you are interested in joining our team, please contact Cornell Library Human Resources at LibHR@cornell.edu for descriptions of positions available.

We appreciate your consideration and your patience as we address our staffing levels in Rare and Manuscript Collections.
