The Division of Rare and Manuscript Collections (RMC) will consider loaning materials for exhibitions on a case by case basis to libraries, museums, and other cultural institutions with demonstrated capacity for ensuring the safety and security of requested items. RMC follows national guidelines governing procedures for loans for exhibition purposes.
To Request a Loan:
- Send requests for loans at least one year in advance of installation to our AUL and Acting Director, Haven Hawley
- Include a list of each requested item with complete bibliographic information
- Provide inclusive dates of exhibition and when items need to arrive and will be returned
- Provide a short exhibition description, name of curator, and any planned programming or publications
- Confirm that borrower will cover fees, insurance and appropriate transportation costs
- Provide a detailed facilities report
- Borrowing institution is responsible for all loan costs including insurance and transportation
- Contact us for fees associated with the loan, such as service fees, any needed treatment or specialized packing fees, photography, or appraisals
